Kirkland is a city located in Maricopa County, Arizona, United States. According to the 2010 census, the population of the city was 34,827. Kirkland is a suburb of Phoenix and is part of the Greater Phoenix metropolitan area. The city's name comes from Kirkpatrick Saleeby, an early settler in what was then called " Kirkland's Station".

The history of real estate in Kirkland can be traced back to 1892 when land was first surveyed and sold in what would become the town center. The first home built on this land was a small cabin that belonged to Dr. J.D. Kirkpatrick who had arrived in Arizona from Illinois just two years earlier. Dr. Kirkpatrick named his new home " Kirkland's Station" after his former home in Illinois and began selling parcels of land around it to other settlers.

In 1902, George Wetherill established Wetherill & Company as the first real estate firm in Kirkland and quickly became one of the town's leading businessmen. He helped develop many of the town's early businesses including a flour mill, lumberyard, and livery stable which served as headquarters for several local cattle ranches.

By 1910, there were already over 100 homes and businesses located within what would become downtown Kirkland including two banks (the First National Bank and Citizens National Bank), three hotels (the Grand Hotel, Richardson Hotel & Saloon, and Globe Hotel), two churches (First Presbyterian Church and St John's Episcopal Church), four stores (Wetherill Bros., Moore & Son Hardware Store/Lumber Yard/Drug Store/Grocery), two newspapers (The Herald-Republic and The Daily Courier), three saloons (the Richardson Saloon & Billiard Parlor/Citizen’s Club Saloon/Pioneer Saloon), four garages (Wetherill Bros., Moore Garage/Harrison Garage/Smith Garage), five restaurants (Wilson’s Lunch Room / Wilson’s Cafe / Koehler’s Restaurant / Gallagher’s Restaurant / Murphy’s Restaurant) as well as several residences including those belonging to prominent citizens such as Judge Atherton Gillett; Rufus Peeples; Cesar Chavez; Jethro Klossner; Edwin Litchfield; William Hance; Charles Fenton Bailey; Frank Miller; Walter Easley Jr.; Harry Southerland Sr.; Harold Browning Jr.; James Burt Reynolds Sr.; John Wayne Bobbitt Jr.; Roy Rogers Jr.; Gene Autry etc...
