Pearl, Illinois is a small town located in Cook County. The population of Pearl was 2,829 as of the 2010 census. Pearl is located about 20 miles south of downtown Chicago and is adjacent to the city of Matteson.

The history of Pearl can be traced back to 1837 when John and Elizabeth Pearson settled on a tract of land east of what is now Matteson. The Pearsons named their settlement after the pearl fisheries in Scotland. In 1839, a post office was established at the Pearson settlement and it was renamed Pearl in 1840. The first school in Pearl opened in 1853 and by 1870, there were enough people living in Pearl to form a village board.

Today, much has changed since 1870 when Pearl consisted of just a few hundred residents. The population has more than doubled since then as new housing developments have been built near the town center. This growth has led to increased traffic congestion and other problems that have been difficult for the small community to address effectively. One example is the lack of adequate public transportation options that would allow residents to commute into Chicago without having to use expensive cars or rely on long bus rides.

Despite these challenges, many people continue to live in Pearl because it offers many benefits not found elsewhere in Cook County. These benefits include low crime rates, excellent schools (both public and private), affordable housing, and access to numerous recreational opportunities (including golf courses, lakeshores, parks, and museums). Additionally, because most businesses are locally owned rather than franchises operated by large corporations, residents feel more connected to their community than they would if they lived in another part of Cook County.
