Ware is a town in the Pioneer Valley of Massachusetts, United States. The population was 14,814 at the 2010 census. Ware is home to several colleges and universities, including Hampshire College and Smith College.

Ware was first settled in 1639 as part of the settlement of Rowley. The town was officially incorporated on February 6, 1793. Ware's economy has traditionally been based on agriculture and manufacturing; however, since the late 20th century, it has developed into a bedroom community for Boston residents working in nearby hospitals or research institutions.

Ware is located at 42°6′N 71°41′W / 42.10556°N 71.71667°W / 42.10556; -71.71667 (42.105611,-71.716611). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , of which is land and , or 2%, is water.[1]

The town borders Amherst to the north-northwest, Hadley to the northeast, Northampton to the east-southeast, and Belchertown to the south-southwest.[2] Route 9 passes through Ware from west to east just south of downtown; Route 202 also runs through town from north to south near its eastern border with Amherst.[3] Interstate 91 passes about 10 miles (16 km) west of Ware near Northampton; I-90 leads directly into Boston about 25 miles (40 km) away.[4]
