Montrose is a small town located in Hennepin County, Minnesota. The population was 2,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area.

The town was founded in 1856 and named for Montrose, Scotland. The first settler in the area was John Aitken who built a cabin on what is now known as Aitken Avenue. By 1868 there were enough people living in Montrose to form a village with a post office and school district. In 1870 the railroad came through and Montrose became an important transportation hub for farmers in the area.

Today, much of Montrose's character remains unchanged from when it was first settled over 150 years ago. The downtown district features several historic buildings including the old train depot, which has been converted into apartments and shops. There are also several parks and gardens scattered throughout the town which offer residents plenty of opportunity to relax and enjoy nature.
