Water Mill, NY

Water Mill is a small town located in the Catskills, New York. The population of Water Mill was 2,811 as of the 2010 census. The town is located on the eastern bank of the Hudson River and has a rich history dating back to the early 1800s.

The area that is now Water Mill was first settled by Dutch colonists in 1664. The town was originally called " Watervliet" after the river that flows through it. In 1786, Water Mill became part of the newly formed Clinton County and was renamed "Watermill". The name change likely came about because there were already several mills operating in the area at that time.

The early economy of Water Mill depended heavily on milling and agriculture. However, over time, tourism has become an important part of the local economy. There are several attractions located in or near Water Mill including: The Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area; Taconic State Park; and Windham Mountain Ski Resort.

Real estate in Water Mill is typically priced lower than other areas of New York due to its proximity to Taconic State Park and Windham Mountain Ski Resort which attract tourists from all over the country. Additionally, many residents commute to jobs in nearby cities such as Albany or New York City.
