Yorkville, NY

Yorkville is a neighborhood in the West Side of Manhattan, New York City. It is bounded by Central Park to the north, Broadway to the east, Columbus Avenue to the south, and West 72nd Street to the west. The area was originally rural land that belonged to John Jacob Astor IV and his wife Caroline Webster Thurston. In 1869, Astor's son William Waldorf Astor purchased 640 acres (260 ha) of this land for $2 million and began developing it into a fashionable residential area.

The first houses were built in 1871 on what are now Park Avenue South and East 73rd Street. The village that developed around these houses came to be known as Yorkville; it was incorporated as a town in 1874 and as a city in 1898. Today, Yorkville is one of Manhattan's most prestigious neighborhoods, home to many of New York City's wealthiest residents.

Real estate in Yorkville has always been expensive due to its proximity to some of the world's most famous landmarks and luxury shopping districts such as Fifth Avenue and Madison Avenue. In recent years, however, prices have increased even more due to strong demand from both domestic and international buyers.
