Newtown Square, PA

Newtown Square is a small town located in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The population of Newtown Square was 10,890 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

The town was founded in 1740 and named for Newtown, Connecticut, where some of the first settlers had come from. The town's early economy was based on agriculture and manufacturing. However, by the late 19th century, Newtown Square had become a center for retail and wholesale trade. In 1892, it became home to the nation's first department store, Saks Fifth Avenue.

Today, Newtown Square is still a center for retail and wholesale trade; however, its economy has diversified into other sectors such as health care and information technology. The town has also developed a strong reputation for its quality of life and its many recreational opportunities. These include a number of parks and recreation centers as well as several golf courses.
