Turtletown, TN

Turtletown is a small town located in the southeastern corner of Knox County, Tennessee. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. Turtletown is home to the Turtletown Volunteer Fire Department and the Turtletown Community Church.

The first settlers in Turtletown arrived in 1812. The town was named for Colonel James Turtleton, a Revolutionary War veteran who owned large tracts of land in the area. The town's early economy was based on agriculture and timber production. In 1892, a railroad line was built through Turtletown and it became an important transportation hub for the region.

Today, Turtletown is primarily a residential community with a small commercial district along Main Street. The town's main attractions are its historic buildings and its volunteer fire department.
